This is the second instalment of the weekly feature “Music Musings”. This feature aims to introduce you to new music to help with your language learning or to perhaps ignite a passion for languages within you.
Shakira is undeniably the queen of Spanish music. However, it has been 3 years since she has released an album. Luckily, this year we were treated to the album ‘El Dorado’. This new album has also launched Shakira right in the heart of the reggaeton genre with collaborations such as that with Maluma. This new album is different to her previous works but is refreshing.
Featured song: Nada
This song is more in line with what you would expect from Shakira. It is a calm, but powerful ballard and is a nice touch in an album which has deviated from her usual style.
Spanish Song: Despacito – Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably already think you know this song. However, forget Justin Bieber. This version is the original and contains no English whatsoever.
Artist: Il Volo
This group is a modern opera trio. Think Il Divo, but Italian. They often sing in Spanish but have some gems in the Italian language.
Featured song: Per te ci sarò
Italian Song: Il Mondo – The Kolors
This song may contain a bit of English in the middle, but it is a great re-imagination of a classic.
Song: Boum Boum Boum – Mika
You may be asking yourself why a Mika song is here. Well, Mika speaks French, Spanish and Italian and has released quite a few songs in French.
